The 14th annual Katie DeRosa Memorial Track and Field Meet for area youth in grades 5-8 will be held on Monday, May 14th at Mountain Ridge High School Stadium, starting at 5:45 p.m.
The meet will be hosted by members of the Queen City Striders, area high school track and field teams, and community members. There is no entry fee for the meet, but donations will be accepted at the gate to benefit two $500 scholarships given annually in memory of Katie DeRosa. Last year’s recipients were Ian MacFawn of Allegany High School and Emily Foreman of Mountain Ridge High School.
There will be four classifications: 5th-6th grade boys; 5th-6th grade girls; 7th-8th grade boys; and 7th-8th grade girls. The top six event finishers in each gender/grade classification will receive place ribbons. Additionally, all competitors will receive a participation ribbon. Interested 5th-8th grade students attending private and public schools in Allegany County can obtain an application from their physical education teachers. Students attending public middle schools in Garrett and Mineral Counties can also obtain an application from their physical education teachers. Additional interested students should select a school representative to phone the meet director regarding the application process. All applications must be returned to each school’s physical education teacher or school representative by Thursday, May 3rd. No late entries will be accepted.
