Hey thanks guys. We arrived in Toronto yesterday. Great city. We are going to the expo this morning to get our race packets. My brother is coming this afternoon. He wants to get his BQ (under 3:16). He is really doubting himself but we are gonna bust butt to get it tomorrow.
Good luck to Fred at Detroit. He really is in good shape.

TORONTO, Ontario — Mineral County resident Eric Joe finished the 15th GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon on Sunday with a chip time of 3 hours, 28 minutes and 32 seconds. Joe, 40, of Ridgeley, W.Va., finished the 26.2-mile event in 257th place among more than 1,600 finishers. He was 52nd in the men’s 40 to 44 age division. It was the second fastest of Joe’s five marathons. His best came earlier this year in Pittsburgh, a Boston Marathon-qualifying time of 3:20:16 in May. “It’s not really what we were shooting for,” Joe said, but it was a “tough course. Some days are like that.” Joe said online information about the race showed a net drop in elevation over the first seven miles, “but there was a lot of in-between up hills. And down by (Lake Ontario) where it looked pancake-flat, there was probably a 2 percent grade” similar to the Great Allegheny Passage. “After seven or eight miles on that,” Joe said, “it starts to take it out of you. The last two miles, from just before mile 24 to the finish line, is up hill at 3.5 percent grade. It’s kind of hard to deal with at that point in the race.” For complete results, log on to www.torontomarathon.com.

Fred Cook fared well in the Detroit Half Marathon
He finished with a chip time of 1:51:33 (gun time of 1:57:06) and placed 6th in the men's 60-64 division. He was the 758th male to cross the finish line.
Looking forward to race reports from both Eric & Fred as their time permits.

A sad note: of more than 19,000 people registered for the Detroit marathon festival on Sunday, 3 died - including 26-year-old Jon Fenlon of Waterford. He collapsed at about 9:18 a.m., just after finishing the half-marathon in 1:53:37. Not sure if that's gun time or chip time, but eitherway, I imagine Fred might have been in the vicinity. Very sad news.

Awesome job to both Eric and Fred. They've both been working hard all summer. I'm glad to see some very great results from both of them.

I know Eric was not really happy with his time, but he told me the course was much harder than he thought it was going to be. Either way that is a good Marathon time on any course.

I really appreciate the support from everyone. Woody, you are right, I was not completely happy with that time, but overall I am happy with the experience. I will try to put up a race report sometime today. In the meantime this link is pretty cool. It breaks down my race and compares to all the other finishers. www.runpix.info/tor09/00/finord.php?dist=42&LastName=1254
