Saturday was a great day for a race in Hanthingy. Cool morning, starting out in the mid 40's, but the sun poked through the fog and during the race it was perfect weather for running. 136 runners turned out for the half marathon and a handful more for the 5k walk/run. The course was out and back on the Rail Trail which is paved and virtually flat. The race was organized very well and the benefitting charity, habitat for humanity, was able to raise $5600. I have been increasing my running mileage over the last few weeks and I wasn't sure what pace I'd be able to hold for the race. Just before the turn around i realized i just set a PR for 10k of 38:50. After the turn around I was worried I went out too fast but i was about to hold about the same pace for the return. I finished in a time of 1:22:51 which was good enough for 2nd overall. The resutls are posted at www.pretzelcitysports.com/08%20western%20md%20half%20res.pdf

Great Job Aaron!
Looking good for JFK. Maybe we can talk you into running full time one of these years.

Great run, Aaron. I saw you in the early-going (had to leave the race for another event before you finished). tristaterunnur.com/wmdhalfmart08.html - probably a couple of photos of you on the picture link with this article. I also sent your race performance to the Times-News. Don't know if it'll get in or not, but great race anyway.

oh, and the race director told me the dollars they raised could reach nearly $8,500 - an awesome amount for a first-year event, I think!

I ran the Western MD half as well last Saturday. I thought it was a good race. There were a couple small issues, but it was very well run overall. I finished 12th overall with a time of 1:41:20 and got 3rd in my age group. (30-39).
