$50 before 9/27, $60 after. Kinda pricey if you ask me. Great idea, though. Maureen Hall has expressed interest in organizing a March half-marathon on the towpath near Cumberland. This wouldn't direclty conflict with her race, of course, being 5 months apart. But $50? Yikes. Didn't know those at Rayloc received such a nice severance package...
I'm sorry to so bitter, but I know I can't afford entry fees like that and make no bones about my being frustration about such high fees in an economically depressed rural area. No one I've talked with has shot down the idea of lowering fees in the Allegany-Garrett counties area.
I'll pay $50 - but only for special, goal-oriented races once or twice a year, at most. This race, unfortunately, isn't one of them.
But I wonder if the budding Allegany County Habitat for Humanity has considered sponsoring a race as a fundraiser...

I would have to agree on this one....just because that's what other's charge shouldn't be the reason you set you charge at the same price. I won't be planning on this one because of Chicago, but the price would definitely turn me away. I'm afraid the price may defer a lot of people away especially in a first year race when you want to try to get as many people as possilbe to spread the word for following years. I understand it is to benefit a good cause, but (my opinion only since I don't have numbers to back up one side or the other) I think you would raise more money by lowering the fee by $15-$20. My 2c

Agreed. Wholeheartedly. Not every race is going to have a $3 entry fee - you get what you pay for, right? - but $50-$60 is just too much. I hope the best for the event and, because it's a fundraiser, they'll likely draw some people who normally wouldn't participate. Still, that's a lot of money. I think the only race I've paid for that's cost more is the JFK - and there, you get lots of "bang" for each dollar spent. It's one of the most well-supported, if not the best, courses I've ever run.
