Just wanted to wish Rob Smith and Terri Wagoner good luck in this weekends Marine Corps Marathon. Rob has put in alot of hard work and I hope he attains his goal. Terri has been logging many miles on Rt. 220 and is running in honor of some close friends who have passed away due to ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). Good Luck to the both of you and if I've missed anyone please let me know.

Rob, go down there and kick some butt. I don't know exactly what you are aiming for, but I think you are on the edge of sub 3:00. There is no doubt in my mind that you have put in all of the hard work to run that kind of time. The only thing left to do is for you to go after at. Remember the pact we made last night. I am all for trying to get a group to head up into the land of Crispus Attucks and trace 26.2 all so we can enjoy the local beverage of Samuel Adams. Go get 'em. You're ready to pop something great. We'll all be rooting for you!

Here is the first update: Rob was 34:34 at 5 miles - that is 6:52 per mile, which puts him on pace to run 3:00:23 - I think he can go under 3 hours. Looks like he is starting out very well. I unfortunately can't check the updates, as I have to go to church, but I will be checking as soon as I am back home to see how he did. If anyone else can do the updates, go to www.marinemarathon.com and click on the runner tracking on the front page, then type in Rob's Bib which is 2287 to see his progress.

Last check Rob was 1:43.18 at 15. He's looking good thus far. I think a sub 3 is on the horizon. Keep it up Rob.

Rob's final time: 3:06:25 for a pace of 7:06 a mile. Looked like a very strong showing.

A great job goes out to Rob. He worked very hard to get a new PR and had a tough day to do it with very high winds. Great race, Rob!!! Let me know when you're going to start running again.

I can’t thank you all enough for the support. It really kept me going. It was an interesting race with several distractions. Our hotel was about a half mile from the start but the bag check was another mile down the road. I left my hotel room at 7 am thinking I had plenty of time to get to start and check my bag but with all the people and the road closures I end up having to run the 1.5 miles back to the start. So the race was to start at 8:25 and I got to my pen at 8:15, no time to spare.
A mile and half warm is no big deal but the DC Police forgot to close one of the roads and the race was delayed 10 minutes. So, I started to cool down to quick. Many of us in the front pens start jumping and run in place to keep lose, which burn a little more energy. So before the race started I had about a 30 min workout.
The sun was shining and the race finally got started. The run through Arlington, Georgetown, and Rock Creek Park was great. It was protected from the wind, a bit hilly but perfect for a Jaron trained runner. Miles 10 through 15 are on the National Mall and that is where the winds start. Cross winds no big deal but heavy gusts up to 25 to 30 mph. However, I felt really strong. Haines Point which are miles 16 through 21 are on the Potomac River and that is where the winds were constantly in my face. That was work to stay on stride.
I was done in the last 5k so all I could was hold on. The sun had pushed up my sweat rate so I was a little dehydrated but I had nothing left. So between the wind and the warmer temps the 3 hour finish slipped away. I guess the spring marathon has to be the sub 3 hours.
