Just a reminder - Monday's marathon club meeting at 6 p.m. at the Cumberland Times-News. It is open to the public and should last about an hour, followed by a self-paced run afterward. Bring your own water.

I got back sunday and i was out of town yesterday. I'll be there for Moonshine. I have to work so i'll miss junior striders and the wednesday run.

Meeting Monday was great. The proposed courses were voted on (and one was selected to move forward). The special event permit is to be turned in to the State Highway Administration on Monday morning.

I ran the Cumberland to Frostburg (via National Highway) tonight starting at 7. The temps had lowered a bit - not a bad run overall. I feel good, actually, about this being a Mountain Maryland marathon event. If people come to Western Maryland expecting a flat course, well, phooey on them... We'll promote accordingly!
Anyway, mapmyrun said it's about 11.6 miles from the Times-News to the bottom of the switchbacks in the Mountain City. I finished in 1:36:11. The only difference is I ran the first section from town to the Narrows on the trail - avoiding traffic (which won't be a problem on a Sunday morning next April). That section was in 16:53.
From the Narrows to the LaVale Plaza (Dunham's Sports) was 32:52 / 49:46 total, then 34:45 to McDonald's (84:30) and the final dash in 11:41. I was pretty tired, but given the right training, the section half will likely be a huge negative split for most finishers...

Sounds like you ended up getting a good run out of it as well. That is pretty solid for how tough that whole section is.

Yeah, and it didn't seem so bad, after all. I think that run lessened my concerns others will have about running that route competitively next April.

Marathon club to meet Sept. 4
A local running group organizing Allegany County’s inaugural marathon is scheduled to meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Life Fitness Management on National Highway in LaVale.
The planned focus of discussion includes the proposed half-marathon route and benefits for second-tier and third-tier sponsorship opportunities.
The race and associated events, which will benefit the County United Way, are scheduled for April 18 and April 19, 2009. The proposed marathon course is to run from downtown Cumberland through LaVale to Frostburg and down the Great Allegheny Passage back to Cumberland.
The meeting will be followed by a self-paced run suited to each runner’s ability. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water or purchase refreshments at Life Fitness Management.

Discussion regarding the Mountain Maryland Marathon (and half, 5K & Kids Marathon) moved forward Monday at Life Fitness Management.
Valerie Van Hollen was voted to the Mtn Md Marathon Club board of directors. The board now includes Maureen Hall (pres), Nut Hall (vp), Jason Griffith (Treasurer), Jim Jordan (Secretary), Amy Schwab Owens and Valerie.
5K route proposals (for the downtown Cumberland area) are being solicited. Any ideas, please send them to run@mountainMDmarathon.org.
